How to get back on track after a slump
How my 5-step system helps me RESET and get back on track

You know those times when you’re feeling stuck?
You’re procrastinating, not sticking to your routine, and somehow getting lost in scrolling, trying to avoid the work you really should be doing?
I’ve been there.
For almost 2 months, I was in that slump. I lost focus, stopped working on my goals, and felt like I couldn’t get my head straight. I’d wake up late, waste hours on my phone, try to work but couldn’t focus, and before I knew it, it was already 2 a.m. and I hadn’t made any progress. It got to the point where life just felt heavy and depressing.
Then Ramadan came, and it gave me the time and space I needed to RESET, focus on my spiritual side, and really take a step back.
So that’s why I want to share with you how I got back on track, but before I dive into that, it’s important to understand why we even fall into a slump in the first place.
Because recognizing the root causes helps us bounce back faster and with more clarity.
Why we fall into a slump
Slumps don’t just happen out of nowhere. There’s always something behind them—patterns, habits, or even external events that quietly build up until we hit a wall. And unless we pause to reflect and figure out what led us there, it becomes incredibly hard to break free. So let’s talk about the real reasons we fall into a slump—because awareness is the first step to getting back on track.
Overconsumption of content
This one hit me hard. Overconsumption is so subtle, it sneaks up on you. You start with one video, and then before you know it, you're stuck in this loop.
Watching stuff gives us a quick burst of dopamine—the feel-good chemical in our brain. But it’s easy dopamine, the kind that doesn't require any effort. And over time, it makes it harder to focus or do the things that actually matter. It feels so much easier to just sit back and watch something, than to put in the effort to work on our goals.
At first, it feels great. But after a while, that initial enjoyment fades. We keep looking for that same high, but it’s not as satisfying anymore. And we get stuck, always chasing that quick fix, because our brains get used to it.
This is when we lose focus. We forget about our goals, our purpose, and what we really want to do. We spend all our time scrolling on our phones, not even noticing how much time has passed. Then, we start feeling guilty and frustrated, like we’re not doing what we’re supposed to be doing. It’s a vicious cycle. And when it hits, it feels hard to get back to that focused, productive version of ourselves.
Burnout
Another reason we fall into a slump is burnout. Sometimes, we work so hard, thinking that the only way to get ahead is to push ourselves nonstop. At first, it feels good—we think we’re making progress. But eventually, it catches up with us. We stop enjoying the things we used to love, and we end up feeling drained and unmotivated.
It's like you’ve been going full speed for so long without taking a real break. You tell yourself, “I’ll rest when I get there.” But even when you try to relax, your mind is still focused on work. It’s not real rest. You feel like you’re running on empty, like driving a car with no gas but hoping it’ll keep going.
Eventually, this constant grind leads to burnout. And when that happens, nothing feels fun or exciting anymore. You just feel stuck in a cycle of exhaustion. And when you're burned out, it’s hard to get back into the things that used to motivate you.
Burnout isn’t just about being tired. It’s about losing that energy to keep moving forward. It’s like your body and mind are telling you, “It’s time to slow down.” Sometimes, we don’t realize how much we’re wearing ourselves out until it all catches up. The slump is a wake-up call—a reminder that we need to pause, reflect, and take care of ourselves.
Life’s unexpected events
Another thing that can cause a slump is life throwing unexpected curveballs our way. Life has a way of shaking everything up just when we think we’re finally in control. Maybe it’s a personal loss, a sudden change, or just a shift in season that throws everything off. You’re no longer working from the same energy, and suddenly, your momentum disappears.
It’s in those moments that everything feels fragile. The goals that once felt exciting start to feel distant. The routines that kept you grounded now feel impossible. And while it might seem like everything’s falling apart, sometimes those moments are life’s way of asking you to pause and pivot. To listen. To reassess.
So, those are just a few reasons why we fall into a slump. Of course, there are other things that can lead to one, but these are the ones I’ve experienced the most.
Now that we understand why slumps happen, the real question is: do we have control over them? Can we actually break out of that cycle, or are we just stuck?
Do We Actually Have Control Over a Slump?
The short answer is: Yes and no.
No, because there are some things we simply can’t control. Things like unexpected life events, health problems, or emotional struggles—sometimes life throws challenges at us that we don’t see coming, and we have to deal with them.
Life’s not linear, right? Even when we have the perfect plan, things still don’t always go how we expect. And let’s not forget, we can’t control our brain’s natural energy cycles either. Some days we wake up feeling on top of the world, and other days we feel sluggish and drained—even after a full night’s sleep. That’s just our circadian rhythm at work, affecting our energy, mood, and focus.
But here’s the thing we can control: how we respond when we hit a slump.
Instead of staying stuck or waiting for motivation that might never come, we have the power to take small actions to get back on track. It’s about setting up an environment that helps us get back into the groove—like cleaning up our workspace, reducing distractions, or organizing our digital spaces.
Another biggie is creating routines and habits that help us reset faster.
And above all, we need to practice self-compassion. Slumps are normal. No one is at their best all the time, and that’s okay. Instead of beating ourselves up, we need to recognize slumps for what they are—temporary. The goal is to acknowledge it, not panic, and put a system in place to get back on track.
This is where systems really help. When you have a system ready, it guides you through the process of resetting without the stress of figuring it all out again from scratch. Instead of overthinking every step, you simply follow your pre-made system. It makes everything feel easier, clearer, and more efficient.
Personally, as someone who tends to overthink, systems are my lifesaver. Without them, I’d get stuck in a loop and never take action. That's why I rely on systems in all areas of my life. They pull me out of my head and help me get back into motion.
That’s exactly why I made it easy for you. I’ve shared my personal system for getting back on track in this video.
To really understand how this system works and all the phases it includes, you’ll want to watch the video. I’ve walked you through every step of the process in detail, so it’s super clear and actionable. Once you’ve watched the video, you can grab the system for free using this link:
